Seasons of the Church

The Church Year shapes our worship and educational program. It leads us to remember the life and ministry of Jesus. Throughout the church year there are specific liturgical colors for use for vestments and hangings within the context of the Christian liturgy. Although at St. John's we do not use hangings on the altar, pulpit, etc. the liturgical colors are still utilized through the vestments of the pastor. While there are more and more colors recommended, we maintain the traditional ones of green, blue, purple, red and white.

BLUE: While often purple, more and more churches are using blue for the season of Advent, this time of preparation for the birth of Christ as well as his second coming in glory. Blue is the color of waiting as well as 'the source of day'.

This website will change colors in keeping with the changes that take place in our sanctuary and the pastor's dress. That is why this site now has a blue theme. Return to this page often to stay informed on the Seasons of the Church.
